Alf was imported from Germany by Van Der Haus Gill German Shepherds at the age of 18 months. After training for narcotics he joined Patrolman Dale Covert with the Arlington Heights Police Department in Ohio where he served for 1 1/2 years. Upon Patrolman Covert’s retirement Alf was returned to Van Der Haus German Shepherds. He was then reassigned to Capital Asset Protection Inc., Neville Island, Pennsylvania. While at Capital Asset Protection Alf was sworn in with his handler Master Sgt. Curtis Jones Jr. with the Butler School Police. Alf was once again reassigned to Col. Reno Hollen where they were sworn into Midwestern Pa. Intermediate Unit 4 School Police, Butler School Police and Laurel School Police. He served with his handler at Capital Asset for 4 years. Alf was then reassigned with his handler Col. Reno Hollen to Victory Security Agency, Inc, where Alf’s police commissions were carried over. Alf served one year and then retired in December of 2004 due to medical conditions. During Alf’s police career he carried certifications with North American Police Work Dog Association, United Police and Corrections K-9 Association, and the Ohio Attorney General. Alf had 78 narcotic convictions within his first year with the Arlington Heights Police Dept. While with Capital Asset Protection and Victory Security Alf continued to keep schools and low income housing within Western Pa., Eastern Oh., and the Northern Panhandle of WV drug free. Alf will be sadly missed by his handler Reno Hollen, his handler’s wife Michele, their four children Alyssa, Alexis, Cortney, and Jessica, his handler’s mother Pat Clark all of Toronto, Oh. As well as his family members and friends K-9 Primer (explosives) and the newest addition K-9 Heidi. Heidi will be carrying on Alf’s legacy to keep schools drug free. Alf will also be missed by his previous handlers and their families. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, Ohio. Proceeds will go to Clarke Funeral Home for future fallen and deceased K-9s.
